The APEX 82281 is a long taper punch designed for professional use in alignment, pin removal, and shaft installation tasks. The tip is precision-hardened to maintain a sharp, accurate point under repeated use, while the striking end is softened and tapered to reduce the risk of chipping during hammer contact. At 11 inches in length with a 1/4-inch tip diameter, this punch reaches into tight clearances and deep bores where shorter tools fall short. The ground surface finish improves readability of the laser-etched size markings, and the hexagonal body seats securely in a punch holder or clamp.
This punch is suited for use in mechanical, millwright, automotive, and general fabrication environments. It is built for tasks such as aligning bolt holes in structural components, driving out roll pins and solid pins, and positioning shafts during assembly or disassembly. The long taper geometry provides controlled material displacement over the length of the punch, making it well-suited for applications where standard-taper punches lack reach or precision. Sold individually.
Designed as a general-purpose long taper punch suitable for use with standard punch holders and clamps across mechanical, fabrication, and automotive service applications.
Always wear appropriate eye protection when striking punches, as metal fragments can dislodge during use. Use a ball-peen or engineer's hammer of appropriate weight for the task — avoid using claw or framing hammers. Inspect the striking end before each use and replace the punch if mushrooming or cracking is observed. Position the punch tip carefully before striking to prevent slipping and workpiece damage.
