The APEX 40088N is a pillar narrow file designed for precise material removal in tight clearances and confined workspaces. This 6-inch file features a No. 2 cut and safe edges, meaning the edges are uncut and will not damage adjacent surfaces during filing. Constructed from steel with a hard-stamped marking style, it measures 5.91 inches in overall length, 0.26 inches wide, and 0.12 inches tall. The narrow pillar profile makes it well-suited for enlarging slots, squaring up keyways, and working in areas where a standard width file would cause unwanted contact.
This file is intended for use by machinists, pipefitters, plumbers, electricians, and general tradespeople who need to deburr, fit, or finish metal components. The safe-edge design is particularly useful when filing one surface without marring an adjoining face, such as when fitting valve seats, cleaning up threaded fittings, or refining brackets and mounting hardware. It is sold individually and fits standard file handles.
Designed as a general-purpose pillar narrow file compatible with standard file handles used across metalworking, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC trades.
Pillar files are used by hand and require no power tools. Always mount the file in a properly sized handle before use to prevent injury from the tang. File in the forward stroke only and lift on the return to preserve the cut. Keep the file clear of moisture and apply a light coat of chalk or file card the teeth regularly to prevent pinning.
