The APEX 39992N is a 12-inch pillar file with safe edges, designed for precision filing work in metal fabrication, maintenance, and repair applications. Built from steel with a hard-stamped marking style, this file measures 11.81 inches in overall length, 0.76 inches wide, and 0.25 inches in height, giving it the narrow, rectangular cross-section that defines the pillar pattern. Safe edges mean the long edges of the file are smooth and uncut, allowing the user to file one surface without scoring the adjacent shoulder or wall. Machinists, pipefitters, millwrights, and general maintenance technicians reach for this tool when working in tight slots, keyways, and recesses where edge control matters.
This pillar file is suited for ferrous metal work including steel and iron stock removal, deburring, and surface finishing in shop and field environments. The narrow profile makes it well suited for filing inside slots, rectangular openings, and close-tolerance features where a flat or mill file would be too wide. It is commonly used in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades for fitting conduit knockouts, cleaning burrs from pipe ends, and dressing metal bracket edges before assembly.
Designed as a general-purpose hand file suitable for use on steel, iron, and similar ferrous metals in maintenance, fabrication, and trade service applications.
Hand files should be fitted with a proper handle before use to prevent tang injuries. Always secure the workpiece in a vise before filing. Inspect the file for cracks or missing teeth before each use, and store files separated from each other to prevent tooth damage. File cutting motion is on the forward stroke only; lifting the file on the return stroke extends tooth life.
