The APEX 06084N is a 12-inch flat hand file designed for material removal, deburring, and surface finishing on metal and other hard materials. It features a bastard cut rating, which places it in the medium-coarse range — suitable for fast stock removal before moving to finer cuts. The double-cut pattern uses two intersecting sets of teeth to cut aggressively on the forward stroke. One safe edge leaves one side smooth, allowing the user to file into corners without damaging an adjacent surface. The file body is steel construction with hard-stamped marking.
This flat file is a standard shop and field tool used by machinists, pipefitters, electricians, HVAC technicians, and general tradespeople. It fits common filing tasks such as cleaning burrs from cut pipe, dressing metal edges, fitting parts, and removing scale. The bastard cut is a practical first-pass choice when significant material needs to be removed before finishing with a finer file. It is sold individually and suits both bench vise work and hand-held field applications.
Designed as a general-purpose flat hand file suitable for use on steel, iron, and similar hard materials across trade and shop applications.
Hand files are used by tradespeople without power — secure the workpiece in a vise when practical to maintain control and reduce injury risk. Always use a file handle to protect against tang puncture injuries. Inspect the file teeth before use and do not use a file as a pry bar or hammer, as the hardened steel is brittle and can fracture. Keep files dry and stored separately to prevent tooth damage.
