The APEX 03764NN is a 12-inch flat file designed for material removal and surface finishing in metal fabrication, maintenance, and trade work. It features a double-cut pattern on the sides for aggressive stock removal and a single-cut pattern on the edges for finer finishing control. The file is manufactured from steel with a hard-stamped marking style for durable identification. At 0.195 inches thick and 1.22 inches wide, this bastard-cut file delivers a balance of cutting speed and surface control suited to bench work, fitting, and deburring tasks. It is supplied without a handle and is compatible with standard aftermarket file handles.
This flat file is well suited for use in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical trade applications where metal edges, burrs, or mating surfaces need to be dressed or shaped. It performs in both shop and field environments. Common uses include filing conduit ends, copper fittings, steel brackets, and rough-cut fasteners. The bastard cut is a general-purpose grade appropriate for initial shaping where finer finishes are not required in the first pass.
Designed as a general-purpose flat bastard file for use with standard aftermarket file handles. Suitable for ferrous and non-ferrous metals in bench and field service applications.
A licensed or journeyman tradesperson should select the appropriate handle before use, as operating a file without a handle poses a puncture hazard from the tang. Secure the workpiece in a vise or clamp before filing to maintain control and avoid injury. Keep the file clean with a file card or brush to prevent pinning, which reduces cutting efficiency and can scratch the work surface. Files should not be used on hardened steel surfaces harder than the file itself, as this damages the teeth.
