The ANVIL 390009439 is a bolted-type grooved reducer coupling designed to connect grooved-end pipe of two different diameters in a single mechanical joint. Constructed from ductile iron and malleable iron meeting ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12 and ASTM A47 Grade 32510, the coupling transitions from a 4-inch grooved end (Size A) to a 2-1/2-inch grooved end (Size B). It carries a 500 PSI pressure rating and includes a factory-supplied EPDM gasket rated for service from -40 to 110 degrees F. The orange painted finish provides standard corrosion resistance for indoor mechanical piping applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting in grooved piping systems.
This reducer coupling is used in commercial and industrial piping installations where a grooved-pipe system requires a diameter reduction inline. Common applications include fire protection, HVAC hydronic distribution, and process piping where bolted grooved couplings are specified. The EPDM gasket makes it suitable for water and other compatible media within the rated temperature range. Maximum end load capacity is rated at 7,952 pounds, supporting use in systems with moderate thrust loads.
Designed as an OEM-style grooved reducer coupling for use with standard grooved-end pipe conforming to the 4-inch and 2-1/2-inch grooved pipe dimensions in mechanical piping systems. Verify groove specification and pipe wall schedule compliance before installation.
Installation is performed by licensed pipefitters or plumbers familiar with grooved mechanical piping systems. Depressurize and drain the piping system fully before disassembly or coupling installation. Lubricate the EPDM gasket with an approved pipe lubricant before seating, and torque the coupling bolts evenly in a cross pattern to the coupling manufacturer's specification. Verify that pipe ends are properly grooved and free of burrs or deformation before assembly.
