The ANDERSON METALS CORP 714040-04 is a 1/4-inch flare cap designed to seal off open flare fittings in refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing lines. This cap threads onto a standard 1/4-inch flare connection to block the port and prevent contamination, pressure loss, or refrigerant escape during service, repair, or system decommissioning. The fitting is lead free and compliant with Public Law 111-380, meeting the requirements for potable water and general-service applications. HVAC technicians and plumbers install this cap as a temporary or permanent termination point on flare-type tubing connections.
This flare cap is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC systems, refrigeration circuits, and plumbing installations where 1/4-inch flare fittings are present. Common applications include capping service ports, sealing unused branch connections, and protecting open lines during staged installations. Each package contains 10 caps, making it practical for service trucks and supply inventories.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard service fitting for any system using 1/4-inch SAE flare connections, including residential HVAC equipment and light commercial refrigeration and plumbing lines.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or plumbers depending on the application. Before capping any flare port on a pressurized system, recover or isolate refrigerant or fluid pressure per applicable safety codes. Thread the cap onto the flare fitting by hand first, then snug with an appropriate wrench — do not overtighten, as flare fittings can crack or deform under excessive force. Follow all applicable IFGC, IPC, and local code requirements for the specific system type being serviced.
