The AMERICAN STANDARD 48-25-5150 is a Switchblade self-feed boring bit designed for fast, clean hole drilling in wood. The replaceable-blade design sets this bit apart from fixed-tip alternatives — when the cutting edge dulls, the blade swaps out without replacing the entire bit body. The aggressive feed screw pulls the bit through the workpiece under its own forward motion, reducing operator pressure and increasing throughput. The bit diameter is 2-9/16 inches, sized for large-bore applications such as running conduit, pipe, or duct penetrations through framing and structural lumber.
This self-feed bit is suited for residential and light commercial rough-in work where electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians need to bore large-diameter holes through wood framing. It is compatible with standard corded and cordless drill drivers and hole-hawg style right-angle drills capable of handling large-diameter self-feed bits. The 2-9/16-inch diameter makes it a common choice for running 2-inch pipe or conduit through lumber with appropriate clearance.
Designed as an OEM-style self-feed bit for use with standard heavy-duty drills and right-angle drill drivers commonly used in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC rough-in applications.
Self-feed bits of this diameter require a high-torque drill — a standard drill driver may stall or kick back under load. Always secure the workpiece before drilling and maintain a firm two-handed grip on the drill to control torque reaction. When boring through framing near existing wiring or plumbing, confirm clearances before drilling. Blade replacement should be performed with the drill unplugged or the battery removed.
