The AMERICAN LOCK A5530 is a rectangular brass and steel body padlock designed for general-purpose security applications across trade and industrial environments. The lock body measures 1.5 inches wide and 0.75 inches thick, with a 5-pin cylinder that resists picking and unauthorized entry. The shackle is boron alloy, measuring 0.25 inches in diameter, 0.75 inches wide, and 1 inch in height. Keyed different configuration means each lock ships with its own unique key, making this unit suitable for individual lockout points or multi-point keying programs where independent access control is required. Total weight is 0.625 pounds.
The A5530 is a compact, heavy-duty padlock suited for use in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. Typical applications include gate latches, hasps, storage lockers, equipment lockout stations, and tool crib security. The boron alloy shackle provides cut resistance appropriate for exposed or higher-risk installations. Electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers frequently use keyed-different padlocks as part of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures on electrical panels, gas shutoffs, and mechanical equipment.
Designed as a standard keyed-different padlock compatible with typical hasps, lock bars, and lockout/tagout devices that accept a shackle with 0.25-inch diameter and 0.75-inch shackle width clearance.
Installation requires no tools beyond inserting the shackle through the hasp or locking point and engaging the lock body. When used in lockout/tagout applications, follow OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 procedures and ensure all energy sources are fully isolated before applying the lock. Do not force the shackle closed if resistance is felt, as this may indicate misalignment with the hasp. Inspect the shackle and body regularly for signs of corrosion or mechanical wear, particularly in outdoor or high-humidity environments.
