The AMERICAN LOCK A20 is a rectangular steel-body padlock built for trade and industrial applications where reliable access control is required. The body is constructed from steel and measures 1-3/4 inches wide by 3/4 inches thick. The shackle is made from boron alloy steel, offering high resistance to cutting and sawing, and measures 5/16 inches in diameter with a 3/4 inch clearance width and 1-1/8 inch height. The lock features a 5-pin tumbler cylinder and is keyed different, meaning each unit ships with its own unique key set. It is non-rekeyable. Total unit weight is 0.42 pounds.
The A20 is suited for securing equipment panels, tool storage, gate hasps, and utility enclosures in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. It is a compact, heavy-duty padlock commonly used by electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and facilities maintenance personnel for lockout/tagout procedures and general access restriction. The rectangular body profile fits standard hasp openings and padlock-ready enclosures.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit padlock for standard hasp and staple assemblies requiring a 1-3/4 inch rectangular body padlock with a 5/16 inch shackle diameter.
Installation requires no special tools beyond confirming hasp or staple clearance matches the 3/4 inch shackle width and 1-1/8 inch shackle height. Always verify the hasp or locking point is rated for the application load before installing. For lockout/tagout applications, follow OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 procedures and ensure the lock is applied to a fully de-energized, isolated equipment point. Do not force the shackle into an undersized hasp opening, as this can damage the locking mechanism.
