The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING TM14NPT is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads in both internal and external applications. With 4 right-hand flutes, a 0.495-inch cutting diameter, and a TiAlN coating, this tool delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding CNC machining environments. It cuts 14 teeth per inch (TPI) and offers a 0.875-inch length of cut, making it suited for productive single-pass or multi-pass thread milling cycles in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 0.5-inch shank diameter and 3.5-inch overall length are compatible with standard ER and end mill toolholders.
This thread mill is used in CNC machining centers for producing 1/2 and 3/4 NPT pipe threads. NPT threads are standard in plumbing, hydraulic, and pneumatic fittings, making this tool common in job shops, production machining, and maintenance machining operations. Both internal threads in pipe ports and external threads on pipe nipples are within its designed application range. It is typically installed and run by CNC machinists working to pipe thread tolerances on parts requiring fluid or gas sealing connections.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers producing 1/2 and 3/4 NPT pipe threads in internal and external configurations. The 0.5-inch shank diameter fits standard end mill and ER-style toolholders.
This tool is intended for use by experienced CNC machinists familiar with thread milling toolpaths and NPT taper thread programming. Secure the shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder with adequate tool stick-out for the required depth of cut. Thread milling requires correct helical interpolation programming — verify the toolpath direction matches the right-hand flute geometry before running. Inspect the cutting edges before each run; carbide tools are brittle and can fracture if impacted against hardened surfaces or run in worn toolholders.
