The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 4C20P-.578 is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. Built to seat size 0 in the GEN2 T-A system, this insert features a 132-degree point angle and an AM300 PVD coating classified at manufacturer grade C2 (K20). The AM300 coating is engineered to extend tool life when cutting through abrasive and difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. At 0.125 inches thick and 0.1 pounds, it is a compact, precision-ground insert intended for use in compatible T-A spade drill bodies. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a replaceable cutting element rather than replacing the entire drill body.
This insert is rated for use across multiple primary workpiece material categories: stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), and super-alloys and titanium (S). That broad material coverage makes it a practical choice for job shops, aerospace machining cells, and heavy manufacturing operations where a single insert style must handle varied material runs. It is part of the GEN2 T-A series, which uses a two-piece modular drill system combining a reusable holder with a replaceable insert for cost-effective drilling at depth.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders accepting seat size 0 inserts. Consult the Allied Machine and Engineering GEN2 T-A holder selection guide to confirm holder-to-insert compatibility before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following the drill body manufacturer's insert-seating procedure. Always ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screws specified by the holder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the seat pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to avoid improper seating and premature insert failure.
