The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 483H-0114 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding industrial applications. With a 1-7/16 inch diameter and a 132-degree point angle, this insert delivers consistent entry geometry and chip control across a range of workpiece materials. It is part of the GEN2 T-A series and features an AM200 PVD coating that extends tool life by reducing heat buildup and surface wear. Seat Size 3 indexes the insert into compatible T-A spade drill holders. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and production drilling operations rely on this insert for repeatable results in high-volume or precision drilling setups.
This insert is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials — covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It fits into GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders at Seat Size 3, making it a practical choice for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and lathe turret applications where through-coolant or flood coolant is commonly used. The 132-degree point angle reduces thrust force on entry, which is especially useful when drilling harder or abrasion-resistant workpiece materials.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders requiring a Seat Size 3 insert. Suitable for workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials.
Installation is performed by machining technicians or toolroom personnel. Before indexing or replacing the insert, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Clean the holder pocket and seating surfaces before installing the insert to ensure proper seating and accurate diameter registration. Use the manufacturer-specified insert screw and a calibrated torque driver — do not overtighten, as this can distort the insert seat or fracture the insert body.
