The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 456H-0308 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for deep-hole and high-production drilling applications. It features a 3-1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 144-degree point angle, and a Seat Size 6 shank interface. The insert is finished with an AM200 PVD coating, which improves wear resistance and heat dissipation at the cutting edge. At 0.4375 inches thick, it fits the GEN2 T-A modular spade drill system. This insert is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC turning centers, machining centers, and manual drill presses where replaceable-tip spade tooling is in use.
This insert is suited for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO work material codes P, M, K, S, and H. Typical applications include large-diameter hole production in job shops, aerospace component manufacturing, oilfield component machining, and heavy industrial fabrication where consistent hole geometry and insert interchangeability are priorities. The GEN2 T-A holder system allows fast insert changes without removing the holder body from the spindle.
Designed for use in ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING GEN2 T-A spade drill holders with a Seat Size 6 pocket. Compatible with work materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO codes P, M, K, S, H).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the manufacturer-recommended torque driver and insert screw to secure the blade in the holder pocket — do not use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the holder seat for wear, chips, or debris before every insert change to maintain hole geometry and prevent premature insert failure.
