The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 454T-0216 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. With a 2.5-inch diameter, a 132-degree point angle, and a TiN (Titanium Nitride) PVD coating, this insert delivers consistent cutting geometry and surface hardness in production drilling environments. It fits Seat Size 4 holders in the GEN2 T-A spade drill system and is engineered to handle interrupted cuts, through-coolant setups, and high-feed rates. Licensed machinists, tooling specialists, and CNC operators working in job shops and production facilities are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is suited for drilling into a range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is a fit for applications where insert indexability and repeatable hole geometry are required without regrinding. The GEN2 T-A series is a modular spade drill platform commonly used in horizontal and vertical machining centers as well as manual drill press setups requiring large-diameter hole production in a single pass.
Designed for use with Seat Size 4 GEN2 T-A spade drill holders. Compatible with primary workpiece materials classified under ISO codes P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), S (super-alloys and titanium), and H (hard materials).
Installation and indexing of spade drill inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct insert seating torque driver or wrench specified for the holder series to avoid over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the seat pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect hole accuracy and insert life. Follow the holder manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and insert grade.
