The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 454H-0202 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. Manufactured from Super Cobalt with an AM200 PVD coating, this insert seats into a Size 4 spade drill holder and delivers a 132-degree point angle for clean entry and reduced thrust in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. At 0.3125 inches thick and 2-1/16 inches in diameter, it is built to GEN2 T-A series tolerances. Machinists and tooling specialists working in production environments will find this insert suitable for interrupted cuts and high chip-load operations where standard HSS inserts fall short.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It is well suited for CNC machining centers, radial drill presses, and manual drill press setups where a spade drill system is already in use. The GEN2 T-A series is a modular insert-and-holder system, meaning this insert drops into compatible Size 4 T-A holders without requiring custom tooling adapters. Applications span aerospace, heavy equipment, and general metalworking production runs.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders accepting a Size 4 seat insert. Confirm holder seat size and series designation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with spade drill insert systems. Ensure the machine spindle is fully de-energized and the holder is secured in a vise or fixture before seating or removing the insert. Inspect the holder seat and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert. Follow the holder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw, and verify insert seating before resuming machining operations.
