The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 453T-0124 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. This insert measures 1-3/4 inches in diameter and fits a Seat Size 3 holder. It is manufactured from M4-grade cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a PVD-applied TiN (titanium nitride) coating for extended tool life and reduced friction at the cutting edge. The 132-degree point angle is suited for a wide range of workpiece materials. It belongs to the GEN2 T-A series and carries a thickness of 0.25 inches. Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual lathes equipped with a compatible T-A style spade drill holder.
This insert is engineered for use across multiple material categories, making it a versatile option for job shops and production environments. Rated workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The TiN coating provides a hard, wear-resistant surface layer that is particularly effective when drilling abrasive or work-hardening materials such as stainless steel and super-alloys. It is appropriate for both light-duty repair work and high-volume production drilling cycles.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series Seat Size 3 spade drill holders. Compatible workpiece material classes include ISO P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), S (super-alloys and titanium), and H (hard materials).
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or tooling technicians. Before changing the insert, power down and lock out the spindle drive per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Use the appropriate T-A insert wrench or torx key as specified by the holder manufacturer to seat the insert securely in the pocket — do not overtighten by feel alone, as improper clamping can cause insert shift or breakage. Inspect the holder pocket and clamping screw for wear each time an insert is replaced.
