The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 453T-0114 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding machining applications. Part of the GEN2 T-A series, this insert measures 1-7/16 inches in diameter and features a 132-degree point angle optimized for accurate entry and reduced thrust. The insert is 0.25 inches thick and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating that extends tool life by increasing surface hardness and reducing friction. Seat Size 3 positions it for use with compatible T-A style spade drill holders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a replaceable cutting element, keeping holder costs down while maintaining cutting performance across production runs.
This insert is rated for use in a broad range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The GEN2 T-A series is suited to both general-purpose production drilling and applications requiring consistent hole quality in tougher alloys. Typical install scenarios include CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, and deep-hole drilling setups where a replaceable insert reduces downtime compared to reground solid drills. Material grade M4 cobalt construction makes it appropriate for interrupted cuts and higher heat environments.
Designed for use with T-A series spade drill holders accepting Seat Size 3 inserts. Confirmed compatible primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per GEN2 T-A series specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the drill holder is fully secured in the spindle and the machine is powered down before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct T-A insert screw and torque driver as specified by the holder manufacturer to prevent insert movement under load. Inspect the seat for chips or debris before installation to ensure full contact and accurate runout.
