The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 453H-45 is a 45 mm diameter spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding metal-cutting applications. Built from cobalt substrate and finished with an AM200 PVD coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge retention across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 132-degree point angle promotes aggressive chip formation and accurate entry, reducing thrust forces at the start of the cut. Seat Size 3 ensures proper seating in compatible GEN2 T-A spade drill holders. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists working in production or job-shop environments will find this insert suitable for deep-hole boring and high-feed drilling operations.
This insert belongs to the GEN2 T-A series and is engineered for use across multiple primary workpiece material categories: steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H). That broad material compatibility makes it a practical choice for aerospace, energy, automotive, and general machining applications where tool changes between materials need to be minimized. Typical installation involves replacing worn inserts in an existing GEN2 T-A spade drill body without removing the holder from the spindle.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders requiring a Seat Size 3 insert. Compatible with workpiece materials classified as steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H).
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Inspect the holder pocket and seating surfaces for wear, chips, or debris before installing the new insert. Torque the insert clamping screw to the holder manufacturer's published specification only — do not estimate. Confirm insert seating and runout before resuming production cuts.
