The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 453H-38 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. This insert measures 38 mm in diameter and seats into a Size 3 holder as part of the GEN2 T-A series system. It is manufactured from cobalt substrate and features an AM200 PVD coating, which supports extended tool life when cutting through abrasive or work-hardening materials. The 132-degree point angle provides a balanced geometry suited for entry and exit in flat and angled surfaces. At 0.25 inches thick, this insert is a direct replacement component intended for use by machinists and tooling technicians in production drilling environments.
This insert is built for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. It fits the GEN2 T-A modular spade drilling system, which is commonly used in CNC machining centers, lathes, and horizontal boring mills where deep-hole or large-diameter drilling is required. Typical applications include hole-making in structural components, flanges, housings, and shafts in aerospace, oil and gas, and general metalworking industries.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series Size 3 spade drill holders from Allied Machine and Engineering. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle powered down and the machine in a locked-out state. Seat surfaces on the holder should be inspected for wear or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper clamping and runout. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screws specified by the holder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Confirm correct insert orientation per the GEN2 T-A system guidelines before resuming drilling operations.
