The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 290Y0S-075L is an indexable spade drill designed for general-purpose hole-making operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Part of the T-A Y Series, it accepts interchangeable spade drill inserts and delivers consistent bore quality in production and job-shop environments. The tool covers a drilling diameter range of 3/8 inches to 27/64 inches and reaches a maximum drill depth of 11-7/16 inches. Through-coolant capability via an axial concentric entry port keeps the cutting zone cool and aids chip evacuation during deep-hole drilling. The straight-flute body is constructed from steel and features a 3/4-inch flatted cylindrical shank for positive drive in standard drill holders. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This spade drill is suited for extended-reach drilling applications in ferrous metals, non-ferrous alloys, stainless, heat-resistant alloys, cast iron, and plastics, reflected in its universal primary workpiece material rating (Material Codes H, K, M, N, P, S). The extended-length body makes it well matched for deep-hole work on machining centers, CNC lathes, and manual drill presses where standard-length tooling cannot reach. The flatted shank provides a reliable grip in side-lock or Weldon-style holders commonly found in production setups. Coolant delivery through the 1/8-inch NPT axial port integrates with machine-side through-spindle coolant systems.
Designed for use with T-A Y Series indexable spade drill inserts. Compatible with universal workpiece materials rated H, K, M, N, P, and S, including carbon and alloy steels, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys. Verify insert grade and geometry selection against workpiece material before use.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Seat the flatted shank fully in the holder and tighten set screws to the holder manufacturer specifications before running. Confirm through-coolant pressure and flow rate are compatible with the 1/8-inch NPT inlet before engaging the spindle. Inspect the spade blade seating and retaining hardware for wear or damage each time the insert is indexed or replaced.
