The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 22050S-005I is an indexable spade drill holder designed for large-diameter boring operations in metalworking and machining environments. Built on the T-A 5 series platform, this holder accepts interchangeable spade drill inserts across a diameter range of 2.5 inches to 3.5 inches and reaches a maximum drilling depth of 6.75 inches. The 5MT taper shank measures 1.748 inches in diameter and interfaces directly with Morse taper spindles on vertical mills, horizontal boring machines, and lathes. Through-coolant delivery via dual radial entry ports keeps cutting edges cool and clears chips at depth. Steel construction throughout provides the rigidity needed for interrupted cuts and high-feed applications.
This holder is suited for general-purpose hole-making in a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, cast iron, aluminum, nonferrous alloys, and superalloys, as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is commonly installed in job shop, production machining, and heavy fabrication environments where large-diameter through-holes or blind holes are produced repeatedly. The straight flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in most standard drilling orientations. The 5MT shank fits machine spindles configured for Morse taper tooling, which is standard on many floor-standing drill presses, boring mills, and manual or CNC lathes.
Designed for use with Allied Machine and Engineering T-A 5 series spade drill inserts covering the 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch diameter range. Rotary coolant adapter compatibility confirmed for model 2T-6SR as specified in product data. Fits machine spindles equipped with 5MT Morse taper bores.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Clean the taper bore and shank thoroughly before seating to ensure proper contact and runout accuracy. Confirm coolant port connections and thread integrity at the 1/2 inch NPT fittings before applying coolant pressure. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when mounting or removing taper-shank tooling.
