The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 22020S-003I is an indexable spade drill from the T-A 2 series, designed for through-coolant drilling operations in a wide range of workpiece materials. It accepts interchangeable spade drill inserts and mounts via a 3MT taper shank, making it a shop-ready tool for machining centers and drill presses running taper-shank toolholders. The drill covers a diameter range of 31/32 to 1-3/8 inches with a maximum drill depth of 3-3/8 inches. Coolant is delivered through a radial entry port threaded at 1/8 inch NPT, keeping the cutting zone clear and extending insert life during general-purpose drilling cycles.
This spade drill body is rated for universal primary workpiece materials, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, which span steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and similar materials. The short-length body classification suits production drilling where rigidity is a priority and workpiece access is not restricted. It is typically installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in job shop and production manufacturing environments where indexable tooling reduces downtime versus brazed or solid tooling.
Designed for use with T-A 2 series spade drill inserts. Compatible with rotary coolant adapter model 2T-3SR. Fits any machine spindle or toolholder that accepts a 3MT (Morse Taper 3) taper shank.
Installation requires a machine spindle or toolholder bored to 3MT specification. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing the drill body from the spindle. Verify coolant line connections at the 1/8 inch NPT ports are secure and leak-free before initiating a drilling cycle. Insert seating and torque should follow the spade insert manufacturer's published guidelines for the T-A 2 series.
