The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 20441-1500 is an indexable spade drill body designed for high-performance hole-making in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built to HP-D Series standards, this drill accepts interchangeable spade blade inserts and bores diameters from 2 inches to 2-7/8 inches with a maximum drilling depth of 4-1/2 inches. The straight-flute design and flatted cylindrical shank suit rigid, high-torque setups on CNC machining centers and manual boring mills. The tool body is constructed of steel and weighs 4.76 pounds. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists install and configure this type of indexable tooling.
This spade drill body is rated for universal primary workpiece material categories covering cast iron, steel, stainless, aluminum, and non-ferrous metals as indicated by material codes K, M, N, and P. It is classified as a short-length drill, making it well suited for production drilling operations where rigidity and repeatability are priorities. The 1-1/2 inch shank diameter and 4 inch shank length provide solid clamping engagement in standard drill holders and boring bar blocks. No through-coolant is provided; coolant entry style is designated without coolant, so external or flood coolant delivery should be planned accordingly.
The 20441-1500 is an HP-D Series drill body compatible with Allied Machine and Engineering spade blade inserts sized for the 2 inch to 2-7/8 inch diameter range. Consult the Allied HP-D Series catalog for the correct insert part numbers for your target diameter and workpiece material.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body from the holder. Verify shank seating and set-screw torque against the machine tool builder specifications before running. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut or feed rates listed in the Allied HP-D Series application guide for the selected insert grade.
