The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C5YA-.421 is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for precision hole-making in steel and hard materials. This insert features a 132-degree point angle and a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) PVD coating applied via physical vapor deposition, delivering high wear resistance and thermal stability at cutting speeds common in production machining environments. The seat size Y designation corresponds directly to compatible T-A series spade drill holders. At 0.0938 inches thick and ground to a 27/64-inch diameter, this insert is a direct drop-in replacement for standard T-A system tooling. Machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in ferrous metals, including carbon steel, alloy steel, and hard materials. It performs in both CNC machining centers and manual drill press setups where the T-A spade drill system is already in use. The 27/64-inch diameter makes it appropriate for close-tolerance holes requiring repeatable diameter control. Applications span general manufacturing, production shops, and job shops working with steel workpieces across a range of hardness levels.
Designed for use with T-A series spade drill holders accepting Seat Size Y inserts. Primary workpiece materials are steel and hard materials as designated by material codes P and H.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the spade drill holder is fully removed from the spindle and the machine is powered down and locked out before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct T-A insert screw and torque driver as specified by the holder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the holder seat for damage, chips, or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout performance.
