The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C50A-0020 is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in steel and hard materials. Built to T-A series specifications, this insert measures 5/8 inch in diameter with a 132-degree point angle and a seat size 0 profile. At 0.125 inches thick, it carries a TiAlN PVD coating that extends tool life under the heat and abrasion loads common in production drilling. The C5 (P40) carbide grade targets general-purpose steel cutting, making this insert a practical choice for shops running moderate to high material removal rates on steel workpieces.
This insert fits into T-A series spade drill holders and is suited for both manual and CNC drilling operations in job shop and production environments. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in carbon steel, alloy steel, and hard materials where a replaceable insert system reduces tooling cost compared to solid drill replacements. The TiAlN coating supports dry or minimal-lubrication cutting conditions, which is useful in high-speed machining setups. Installation is handled by machinists and toolroom technicians as part of routine insert indexing on compatible T-A spade drill bodies.
Designed for use with T-A series spade drill holders accepting seat size 0 and a 5/8 inch diameter insert. Specific holder compatibility should be verified against the T-A series holder documentation provided by Allied Machine and Engineering.
Insert indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully powered down and locked out per standard machine lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct T-A series insert mounting screw and torque driver as specified by the holder manufacturer to ensure proper seating. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Do not use damaged or improperly seated inserts, as they can cause insert breakage or workpiece damage during operation.
