The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C20A-.671 is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. Part of the T-A series, this insert features a 132-degree point angle and a TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride) PVD coating that extends tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The C2 (K20) carbide grade delivers the hardness and wear resistance required when drilling through tough workpiece materials. At 0.125 inches thick and 43/64 inches in diameter, it seats into a Series 0 T-A spade drill holder. Machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and production environments rely on this insert for consistent, repeatable bore quality across high-volume runs.
This insert is suited for drilling stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, super-alloys, and titanium. The TiAlN coating performs well in dry or minimum-quantity lubrication (MQL) conditions, making it a practical choice for production shops managing coolant costs. Its T-A series design allows the holder body to be reused while only the cutting insert is replaced, reducing per-hole tooling cost in high-cycle operations. Applications include component drilling in aerospace, automotive, energy, and general metalworking environments where material hardness and abrasion resistance demand a coated carbide solution.
Designed for use with T-A series spade drill holders accepting a Series 0 seat size insert. Compatible primary workpiece materials include stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, super-alloys, and titanium (material codes M, K, N, S).
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle and machine fully powered down and locked out. Use the appropriate T-A series insert screw and torque driver recommended for the holder series — do not substitute hardware. Inspect the holder pocket seat for chips, debris, or wear before seating the insert, as a contaminated seat will affect runout and bore quality. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and holder manufacturer guidelines for cutting parameters when working with super-alloys or titanium, as these materials require specific feed and speed ranges to avoid premature edge wear.
