The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 182N-0104 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial applications. Sized at 1-1/8 inch diameter with a Seat Size 2 designation, this insert fits T-A series spade drill holders. The 132-degree point angle promotes accurate entry and efficient chip evacuation. A TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) PVD coating adds surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in abrasive and tough-to-machine workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.1875 inches thick and weighs approximately 0.1 pounds. This is a single-insert package sold in multiples of two. Machinists and toolroom professionals handling production drilling operations are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for drilling into a broad range of workpiece materials including Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, Super-alloys, Titanium, and Hard Materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It is part of the Allied Machine T-A series, a modular spade drilling system widely used in CNC machining centers, lathes, and drill presses for production-volume hole making. The TiCN coating makes this insert particularly effective when machining work-hardened or heat-resistant alloys where uncoated cobalt inserts would wear prematurely.
Designed for use with Allied Machine T-A series Seat Size 2 spade drill holders accepting a 1-1/8 inch diameter insert. Verify holder seat size and insert diameter before installation to ensure proper seating and clamping.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured before changing inserts. Clean the insert seat and clamping screw threads before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and alignment. Follow the holder manufacturer's torque guidelines for the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert or distort the seat.
