The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 15ZT-12 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-penetration drilling in metal and alloy workpieces. It features a 132-degree point angle for aggressive cutting geometry and a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating that improves surface hardness and extends tool life under repeated use. The insert seats in a Size Z holder within the T-A series system, a modular spade drilling platform widely used in production machining environments. At 0.0938 inches thick and sized for a 12 mm bore diameter, this insert is a direct consumable replacement for T-A series spade drill bodies. Installation is handled by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials including steel (ISO code P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and super-alloys and titanium (S). That broad material compatibility makes it suitable for job shop and production environments running varied workpiece schedules. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations on CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and manual drill presses where the T-A series holder is already in service. The TiN coating provides general-purpose performance across the listed material groups without requiring coolant changes for most standard setups.
Designed for use with ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING T-A series spade drill bodies fitted with a Size Z insert seat. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (super-alloys and titanium).
Insert replacement is performed by machinists or toolroom personnel with the machine powered down and the spindle locked or the tool assembly secured in a vise. Use the appropriate T-A series insert key or torx driver to remove the retaining screw before swapping the insert. Inspect the seat pocket for chips or damage before seating the new insert, and torque the retaining fastener to the spade drill body manufacturer specification found in the T-A series tooling documentation. Do not attempt to regrind TiN-coated inserts, as recoating requires specialized PVD equipment.
