The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 154T-0202 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations in demanding metalworking applications. Part of the T-A Series, this insert features a 132-degree point angle and a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating that reduces friction and extends tool life. At 2-1/16 inches in diameter and a thickness of 0.3125 inches, it seats into a Size 4 T-A Series holder. The cobalt substrate provides heat resistance and toughness needed when drilling hard or abrasive workpiece materials. Machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers and users of this insert.
The 154T-0202 is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium. These workpiece material categories correspond to ISO designations P, M, K, and S, covering a broad range of industrial metalworking scenarios. Typical applications include production drilling on CNC machining centers and manual boring mills where replaceable-insert spade drills are preferred over solid carbide or high-speed steel tooling for economic and geometric consistency. The T-A Series system allows rapid insert changes without removing the holder from the spindle, minimizing downtime in high-volume operations.
Designed for use with T-A Series Seat Size 4 spade drill holders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium as stated in the product specifications.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate T-A Series insert wrench or torx key as specified by the holder manufacturer to seat the insert securely. Do not exceed the holder's rated speed and feed parameters for the selected diameter. Inspect the insert seat and holder bore for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability.
