The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 152N-0031 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Part of the T-A series, this insert measures 31/32 inches in diameter and features a 132-degree point angle for accurate hole entry and reduced thrust. Constructed from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiAlN PVD coating, it delivers extended tool life in tough cutting conditions. The insert thickness is 0.1875 inches and it seats in a Size 2 holder body. It is the standard choice for machinists and tool-and-die professionals running spade drilling operations on CNC or manual equipment.
This insert is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium — covering ISO material codes P, M, K, and S. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in production machining environments such as job shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and heavy equipment fabrication. The TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance at elevated cutting speeds, making this insert particularly effective in dry or semi-dry cutting conditions where heat buildup is a factor.
Designed for use with T-A series Seat Size 2 spade drill holder bodies. Consult the Allied Machine and Engineering T-A series holder selection guide to confirm body compatibility for your specific drilling depth and machine spindle configuration.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or replacing the spade drill insert. Seat the insert fully into the holder pocket and verify the clamping screw is properly torqued per the holder manufacturer specification before resuming operation. Inspect the insert seating surface and holder pocket for chips or debris prior to each installation to prevent misalignment or premature insert failure.
