The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 151A-0023 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. Part of the T-A Series, this insert features a 132-degree point angle and a TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride) PVD coating that improves heat resistance and extends tool life at elevated cutting speeds. At 23/32 inches in diameter with a Seat Size 1 designation, it seats directly into compatible T-A Series spade drill bodies. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in job shops, production environments, and aerospace facilities rely on this insert for consistent performance in difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium — covering ISO material codes P, M, K, and S. It is well suited for through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations where carbide may be cost-prohibitive or where cobalt substrate toughness is preferred over brittleness. Typical applications include structural drilling, manifold bores, and high-volume production runs where insert interchangeability and repeatable hole quality are critical. The T-A Series platform allows the insert to be replaced without removing the drill body from the tool holder, reducing downtime during production.
Designed for use with T-A Series spade drill bodies accepting Seat Size 1 inserts at 23/32 inch diameter. Consult the ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING T-A Series body selection guide to confirm body-to-insert pairing before ordering.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling setup technicians following standard spade drill insert seating procedures. Ensure the drill body seat and insert pocket are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Torque the insert fastener according to the T-A Series body manufacturer specification — do not estimate or substitute fastener hardware. Always confirm spindle is at a full stop and machine is locked out before changing inserts.
