The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 150A-.640 is a spade drill insert designed for use in T-A series spade drill holders. It features a 41/64 inch cutting diameter, a 132-degree point angle, and a cobalt substrate with a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) PVD coating. The TiAlN coating provides elevated heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. At 0.125 inches thick and weighing 0.1 pounds, this insert is a Seat Size 0 replacement or spare for T-A compatible drill bodies. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production or job-shop environments install this insert as a consumable cutting element in modular spade drill assemblies.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium workpieces. Its cobalt base material and TiAlN PVD coating make it appropriate for materials that generate elevated cutting temperatures or require higher wear resistance than standard high-speed steel inserts. Designed for use with Allied Machine and Engineering T-A series spade drill holders accepting Seat Size 0 inserts. Compatible primary workpiece material classifications include P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (super-alloys and titanium).
Spade drill inserts are installed and removed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians using the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the holder manufacturer. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and coolant shut off. Inspect the insert seat in the holder for chips, debris, or wear before seating a new insert, as a compromised seat will affect cutting geometry and tool life. Handle cobalt cutting tools with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge during installation.
