The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 10274-0400 is a spade drill insert designed for high-feed drilling operations in demanding metal cutting applications. It measures 4 inches in diameter with a 130-degree point angle, and is manufactured from CPM-M4 powdered metal for consistent edge integrity and wear resistance in production environments. The insert seats into a Size G holder and arrives uncoated, making it suitable for use with cutting fluids or where coating-related adhesion concerns apply. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals working with CNC machining centers, horizontal boring mills, and large-capacity drill presses.
This spade drill insert is intended for deep-hole and large-diameter drilling in steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Its 4-inch diameter and powdered metal construction make it a practical choice for production shops and job shops that require reliable hole geometry at larger diameters without the cost of solid carbide tooling. The uncoated surface allows for straightforward regrinding when edge wear occurs, extending total tool life in high-volume applications.
Designed for use with Allied Machine and Engineering Size G spade drill holders. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals as designated by ISO material codes P, K, and N.
Spade drill inserts should be installed by qualified machinists following the holder manufacturer torque and seating specifications for the designated seat size. Ensure the machine spindle and workholding are fully stopped and de-energized before changing inserts. Inspect the seat pocket for chips, burrs, or wear before seating the insert, as debris under the insert body can cause deflection and premature failure. Follow applicable machine shop safety standards and the tool manufacturer guidelines for coolant pressure and feed rate selection.
