The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 10254-0220 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in metal cutting applications. This insert measures 2-5/8 inches in diameter and seats in a Size E holder. It is manufactured from CPM-M4 powdered metal and left uncoated, making it well suited for applications where the base material provides sufficient hardness and wear resistance without a coating. The 130-degree point angle is a standard geometry that balances penetration and chip control across a wide range of workpiece materials. Machinists and tooling specialists install this insert into compatible spade drill bodies used on CNC lathes, machining centers, and manual drilling equipment.
This insert is appropriate for use in production and job-shop environments where large-diameter drilling is required. It is rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, corresponding to ISO material codes P, K, and N. The CPM-M4 grade offers elevated wear resistance compared to standard M4 high-speed steel, making it a practical choice for demanding cutting conditions in both ferrous and non-ferrous applications. It is packaged individually and sold as a single unit.
Designed for use with spade drill bodies that accept a Size E seat. Verify seat size and insert diameter against the drill body manufacturer specifications before installation.
Spade drill inserts are installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom personnel. Before changing an insert, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped, locked out, and power is isolated per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Seat surfaces on the drill body should be clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can affect runout and insert integrity. Consult the drill body manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw, as these values are specific to the holder design.
