The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1022T-0116 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in production and maintenance machining environments. It measures 1-1/2 inches in diameter and features a 130-degree point angle suited for accurate entry and efficient chip formation. The insert is manufactured from high speed steel and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating that improves surface hardness and extends cutting life. At 0.2813 inches thick and 1-3/32 inches in height, it fits Series B seat holders. Machinists, tool-room technicians, and production floor operators typically install and index these inserts during drilling operations on steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metal workpieces.
This insert is intended for use in Series B spade drill holders and is suited for drilling operations across a range of workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. It fits standard production environments where spade drills are preferred for deep-hole or large-diameter drilling without the cost of solid twist drills. The 130-degree point geometry provides a balance between centering accuracy and thrust reduction, making it a practical choice for general-purpose hole production on manual or CNC equipment.
Designed for use with Series B spade drill holders that accept 1-1/2 inch diameter inserts. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals per ISO material codes P, K, and N.
Spade drill inserts are indexed and secured by a machinist or tool crib technician using the appropriate holder wrench or torx key specified by the holder manufacturer. Always de-energize and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Inspect the seat and holder pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure. Follow the holder manufacturer's clamping procedure and do not exceed recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material.
