The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1021T-0108 is a spade drill insert designed for high-feed, deep-hole drilling operations in production machining environments. The insert measures 1-1/4 inches in diameter with a 7/8-inch height and a 0.1875-inch thickness. Constructed from high speed steel (HSS) and finished with a physical vapor deposition (PVD) titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers improved surface hardness and heat resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 130-degree point angle suits general-purpose hole-making across a range of workpiece materials. This insert fits Series A seat holders and is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC and manual drilling applications.
This spade drill insert is suited for drilling into steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, covering ISO material codes P, K, and N. Typical applications include production runs where replaceable insert tooling is preferred over solid-body drills for cost efficiency and setup repeatability. The insert seats into a compatible Series A holder shank, allowing quick changes without removing the full drill assembly from the spindle. It is well-suited for job shop and manufacturing environments where multiple material types are encountered across shifts.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool locked out before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate insert seating tool or torque wrench recommended by the holder manufacturer to secure the insert without overtightening the clamping screw. Inspect the seat pocket and insert seating surface for chips or wear before each insert change to ensure accurate positioning and runout control.
