The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1021T-0106 is a spade drill insert designed for use in compatible spade drill holders in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 1-3/16 inch cutting diameter, a 130-degree point angle, and is manufactured from high speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating. The TiN coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge, extending tool life in production drilling operations. At 0.1875 inches thick with a 7/8 inch height, this insert fits Seat Size A holders. It is typically installed and replaced by machinists and toolroom technicians working in job shops or production environments.
This spade drill insert is suited for drilling steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Seat Size A sizing makes it a direct fit for Allied Machine and Engineering Series A spade drill holders. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where replaceable insert tooling is preferred over solid twist drills. The 130-degree point angle provides a good balance of cutting efficiency and entry stability across the listed workpiece materials, reducing thrust force compared to flatter point geometries.
Designed for use with Allied Machine and Engineering Series A spade drill holders that accept Seat Size A inserts with a 1-3/16 inch diameter. Suitable for primary workpiece materials classified as steel (P), cast iron (K), and non-ferrous metals (N).
Insert replacement is performed by machinists or toolroom personnel with the machine fully powered down and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. The insert must be seated flush and secured according to the holder manufacturer torque guidelines using the correct insert screw and driver. Inspect the holder seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and drill performance. Handle the cutting edge with care after coating, as chipping the TiN layer at installation will reduce tool life.
