The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 7C217P-.671AS is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Measuring 43/64 inches in diameter with a 140-degree point angle, this insert seats into a size 17 spade drill holder and delivers consistent, repeatable bore entry. It carries an AM300 PVD coating rated for grade C2 (K20) carbide, which improves surface finish and extends tool life when cutting stainless steel and similar ferrous materials. Machining professionals, tool-and-die shops, and production drillers install this insert as part of the GEN3SYS XT platform for indexable spade drilling operations.
This insert is intended for use in production machining environments where stainless steel and other M-grade workpiece materials are drilled at moderate-to-high feed rates. The GEN3SYS XT series is engineered for through-coolant spade drill bodies and is well suited to CNC machining centers and drill presses where tool change speed and insert indexability reduce downtime. The 140-degree point geometry helps reduce thrust force and improve hole entry on difficult-to-machine alloys, making it a practical choice for aerospace, oil and gas, and general manufacturing setups.
Designed for use with GEN3SYS XT series Seat Size 17 spade drill holders. Specific holder compatibility should be verified against the manufacturer tooling selector before ordering.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machining professional with the spindle powered down and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert securely — do not overtighten by hand estimation alone. Inspect the insert pocket and seat for chips or burrs before seating a new insert to ensure full contact and repeatable runout. Follow shop safety protocols and manufacturer tooling documentation for feed rate and speed recommendations appropriate to the workpiece material.
