The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C31A-0028-CI is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in cast iron and similar K-grade workpiece materials. This insert measures 7/8 inches in diameter and seats in a Seat Size 1 T-A series spade drill body. It is manufactured from C3 (K10) carbide and features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which extends tool life by reducing heat buildup and wear at the cutting edge. The 132-degree point angle is optimized for entry stability and chip control in ferrous materials. Toolroom machinists and production drilling operations in metalworking environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for production drilling applications in cast iron components across industrial machining environments. The T-A series is a modular spade drill system in which the insert mounts into a reusable steel holder body. The 1C31A-0028-CI is intended for use in the T-A Seat Size 1 holder, making it compatible with that specific holder family within the T-A product line. Typical applications include drilling through-holes and blind holes in cast iron parts such as engine blocks, housings, and pump bodies on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and similar machine tools.
Designed for use with T-A series Seat Size 1 spade drill holder bodies. Primary workpiece material designation is cast iron (Material Grade K). Confirm holder seat size before installation to ensure proper insert fit and clamping.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine tool before changing any cutting inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and insert screw to secure the insert in the holder seat — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the holder seat and clamping screw for wear or damage each time the insert is changed to maintain accurate positioning and safe cutting performance.
