The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C23A-0118 is a solid carbide spade drill insert engineered for precision hole-making in demanding industrial applications. Built to T-A series specifications with a Seat Size 3 designation, this insert features a 132-degree point angle and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that improves heat resistance and extends tool life at elevated cutting speeds. At 1-9/16 inches in diameter and 0.25 inches thick, it is sized for medium-to-large diameter drilling operations. The C2 (K20) carbide grade delivers the hardness and wear resistance required when working through abrasive or tough materials. Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for drilling stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and super-alloys including titanium. The TiAlN coating performs particularly well in high-temperature cutting zones common when machining nickel-based and titanium super-alloys. The T-A series is a widely recognized spade drill platform used across aerospace, energy, and general machining sectors where deep-hole and high-production drilling demand reliable, replaceable insert tooling rather than solid drill assemblies.
Designed for use with T-A series Seat Size 3 spade drill holders accepting a 1-9/16 inch insert diameter. Compatible workpiece materials include stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), and super-alloys and titanium (S).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the holder seat is clean and free of chips or debris before torquing the insert fastener to the holder manufacturer's specified value. Do not use the insert in a holder with a worn or damaged seat, as improper seating will affect runout and can cause premature insert failure or workpiece damage.
