The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 154T-0218-FB is a spade drill insert engineered for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. Part of the T-A series, this insert measures 2-9/16 inches in diameter and seats in a size 4 holder. It is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a PVD-applied TiN (titanium nitride) coating for extended tool life and reduced friction at the cutting edge. The 180-degree point angle delivers a flat-bottom entry profile suited to interrupted cuts and cross-hole drilling. At 0.16 pounds, it is a direct-replacement insert designed for use in compatible T-A series spade drill holders on CNC machining centers and manual lathes.
This insert is intended for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium workpieces. It fits applications across general metalworking, aerospace component machining, energy sector part production, and heavy equipment manufacturing. The cobalt substrate provides heat resistance and edge retention when drilling work-hardening materials such as stainless steel and titanium alloys. Typical install scenarios include replacing worn or chipped inserts on T-A series bodies already set up in a machine tool without disturbing the holder setup.
Designed as a replacement insert for T-A series size 4 spade drill holders. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and super-alloys and titanium (S).
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured or removed from the spindle before changing the insert. Seat the insert flush against the holder pocket and torque the clamping screw per the holder manufacturer specification. Inspect the seating surface and clamping screw threads for chips or debris before reuse to prevent insert movement during cutting.
