The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 153A-0128 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding materials. Part of the T-A Series, this insert seats into a Size 3 holder and features a 132-degree point angle with a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) PVD coating. At 1-7/8 inches in diameter and 0.25 inches thick, it delivers the cutting geometry and coating hardness required for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and super-alloys including titanium. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists use this insert as a direct replacement in T-A Series spade drill bodies.
This insert is suited for production machining environments where tool life and material versatility matter. Primary workpiece material compatibility spans steel (P-code), stainless steel (M-code), cast iron (K-code), and super-alloys and titanium (S-code). Typical applications include CNC machining centers, manual lathes, and drill presses running interrupted or through-hole drilling operations in tough ferrous and exotic alloy materials. The TiAlN coating supports elevated cutting temperatures, making it practical for dry or minimum-quantity lubrication machining setups.
Designed for use with T-A Series Seat Size 3 spade drill holders. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and super-alloys and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, and S.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Seat and holder should be cleaned and inspected for wear or damage before seating the new insert. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque guidance for the insert screw - do not overtighten. Confirm runout and seating before resuming cutting operations.
