The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 151N-.703 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 45/64 inch diameter, a 132-degree point angle, and a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating applied via physical vapor deposition (PVD). The TiCN coating improves surface hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life in abrasive and high-temperature cutting conditions. This insert fits Seat Size 1 holders in the T-A spade drill system. Machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and production shop technicians working with ferrous and exotic materials rely on this insert for consistent hole geometry and controlled chip evacuation.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium. It is well matched to production environments where tool longevity and dimensional accuracy are critical. The T-A series spade drill system is widely used in CNC machining centers and manual lathes where high-feed, deep-hole drilling is required. The cobalt substrate adds toughness and heat resistance compared to standard high-speed steel, making this insert appropriate for interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials.
Designed for use with Seat Size 1 holders in the Allied Machine and Engineering T-A spade drill system. Compatible with primary workpiece material codes P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (super-alloys and titanium).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before seating the insert, inspect the holder pocket for chips, debris, or wear that could affect insert stability. Use the appropriate torque driver specified by the holder manufacturer for the insert screw — do not overtighten or use impact tools. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing inserts.
