The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 10254-0304 is a spade drill insert designed for high-feed hole-making operations in metalworking and machining applications. Manufactured from CPM-M4 powdered metal tool steel, this insert delivers consistent cutting geometry with a 130-degree point angle suited for a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It measures 3-1/8 inches in diameter and 2-5/8 inches in height, with a thickness of 0.4375 inches. The bright, uncoated finish provides a clean base surface for applications where coating is not required. This is a Seat Size E, Series E insert intended for use with compatible Allied spade drill holders.
This insert is used in production drilling environments where large-diameter holes are required without the cycle time or cost of twist drills. It fits Series E spade drill bodies and is appropriate for machining steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Typical installation scenarios include CNC machining centers, manual boring mills, and lathe turret setups where hole diameter consistency and insert changeability are priorities. The fractional inch sizing makes it a standard fit for shops running inch-system tooling.
Designed for use with Allied Machine and Engineering Series E spade drill holders. Compatible with primary workpiece materials coded P (steel), K (cast iron), and N (non-ferrous metal).
Spade drill inserts should be installed and torqued according to the holder manufacturer's specification sheet using appropriate insert screws and a calibrated torque driver. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Inspect the insert seat on the holder body for chips or debris that could affect seating and runout before each insert change. Handling of powdered metal tooling with bare hands should be minimized to avoid contamination of seating surfaces.
