The ACORN SW-MW2W250 is a self-piercing, sealing tapping screw engineered for roofing and siding applications where a weathertight fastener is required. Manufactured from heat-treated C1022 steel with a case-hardened finish, each screw features a 1/4-inch across-flat high-hat hex washer head with an assembled EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) washer that conforms to the substrate surface and maintains a long-lasting seal. The twin lead Type 17 point combined with hi-lo threads reduces drive time and increases pull-out resistance. A dacro base coating provides 1,000-hour salt spray protection, with a white powder coat applied over the dacro for color-matched installations. Sold in a pack of 250 screws.
These metal-to-wood screws are intended for attaching metal panels, roofing sheets, or siding to wood substrates in both residential and light commercial construction. The self-piercing tip eliminates the need for pre-drilling in most standard applications, making them a practical choice for roofing contractors and siding installers working with steel or aluminum cladding over wood framing or sheathing. The EPDM washer assembly is critical in applications exposed to weather, providing a compressed seal at each fastener point to prevent water infiltration.
Designed for metal-to-wood fastening in roofing and siding applications, compatible with steel and aluminum panel systems installed over wood framing or structural sheathing.
Installation is performed with a standard hex driver bit sized for 1/4-inch hex heads; use a variable-speed drill or screw gun to avoid over-driving and compressing the EPDM washer beyond its sealing range. Follow applicable building codes and manufacturer panel installation guidelines for fastener spacing and edge distance. Inspect each installed screw to confirm the washer is seated flush against the panel surface without excessive deformation.
