The ACORN SW-MW2G250 is a self-piercing, self-tapping metal-to-wood screw engineered for roofing and siding applications. Manufactured from heat-treated C1022 steel with case hardening, each screw features a 1/4-inch across-flat high-hat hex washer head with an assembled EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) sealing washer. The EPDM washer conforms to the mating surface on installation, creating a weathertight seal. Twin lead Type 17 point geometry and hi-lo threads reduce drive torque, speed up installation, and improve pull-out resistance. All screws carry a dacro coating rated for 1,000-hour salt spray resistance. Sold in a 250-piece pack weighing 3.269 pounds.
These screws are specified for metal-to-wood fastening in residential and light commercial roofing and siding work. Typical applications include attaching metal roofing panels, corrugated siding, and metal cladding to wood structural members or wood sheathing. The self-piercing point eliminates the need for pre-drilling through light-gauge metal, speeding up field installation. The hex washer head allows driving with a standard hex-head driver bit. The dacro base coating provides corrosion resistance suited to exterior exposure conditions.
Designed for metal-to-wood fastening in roofing and siding applications where a self-piercing, sealing screw is required at light-gauge metal panel-to-wood substrate connections.
Installation is performed with a hex-head driver bit sized for a 1/4-inch hex head. Confirm that the substrate and panel gauge fall within the design range for self-piercing fasteners before driving. Do not overdrive — the EPDM washer should compress evenly against the metal surface without distorting. Follow applicable building code and manufacturer panel installation instructions for fastener spacing and edge distance.
