The ACORN SW-MW1G250 is a self-piercing, sealing tapping screw designed for fastening metal to wood in roofing and siding applications. Each screw is manufactured from heat-treated C1022 steel and case hardened for durability in demanding field conditions. The 1/4-inch across-flat high hat hex washer head comes with an assembled EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) washer that conforms to the work surface, creating a secure, long-lasting weather seal. The twin lead Type 17 point combined with hi-lo threads reduces drive time and increases pull-out resistance. All screws receive a dacro base coating rated to 1,000 hours of salt spray testing. Roofing contractors and siding installers are the primary users of this fastener.
These screws are suited for residential and light commercial roofing and siding installations where a watertight fastener connection between metal panels or flashing and wood substrate is required. The hex washer head allows use with standard hex-drive or nut-driver bits, making them compatible with common screw guns and impact drivers used on the job site. Each pack contains 250 screws, providing enough quantity for a full roofing or siding run without multiple reorders. The EPDM washer material holds up well under UV exposure and temperature cycling typical of exterior applications.
Designed as an OEM-style metal-to-wood fastener for roofing and siding applications where self-piercing tapping screws with sealing washers are specified.
Installation is performed by roofing or siding contractors using a hex-drive bit or nut-driver tip matched to the 1/4-inch hex head. Ensure the substrate is properly aligned and supported before driving fasteners. Do not overdrive the screw, as compressing the EPDM washer beyond its designed range can compromise the seal. Follow applicable local building codes and manufacturer panel specifications for fastener spacing and penetration depth.
