The ACORN SW-MW15W250 is a self-piercing, sealing tapping screw designed for metal-to-wood fastening in roofing and siding applications. Manufactured from heat-treated C1022 steel with case hardening, each screw features a 1/4-inch across-flat high-hat hex washer head with an assembled EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) washer that conforms to the substrate surface for a secure, lasting seal. The twin-lead Type 17 point and hi-lo thread profile deliver faster drive times and higher pull-out resistance compared to standard thread designs. All screws carry a dacro base coating rated for 1,000-hour salt spray resistance, with white powder coat applied over the dacro layer.
These screws are suited for residential and light commercial roofing and siding installations where a weather-resistant, self-sealing metal-to-wood connection is required. The EPDM washer compresses against the panel or sheet material on installation, creating a seal that resists moisture intrusion at the fastener point. The hi-lo thread geometry reduces driving torque, making these screws practical for production installations where speed and consistency matter. Each pack contains 250 screws sold as a single unit.
Designed for metal-to-wood fastening in roofing and siding applications where a self-sealing, self-piercing screw with an EPDM washer is specified.
Installation is typically performed by roofing or siding contractors using a hex-head screw gun or drill driver fitted with a 1/4-inch hex bit and adjustable depth-sensitive nosepiece. Drive to the point where the EPDM washer is compressed flush against the panel surface without over-driving, which can compromise the seal. Follow applicable building codes and manufacturer panel guidelines for fastener spacing and edge distances. Do not mix fastener types within a single panel run where uniform corrosion resistance is required.
