The ACORN SW-MW15CG250 is a self-piercing, sealing tapping screw designed for roofing and siding applications where metal meets wood substrate. Manufactured from heat-treated C1022 steel with case hardening, each screw features a 1/4-inch across-flat high-hat hex washer head with an assembled EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) washer that conforms to the surface for a durable, weatherproof seal. The twin-lead Type 17 point combined with hi-lo threads reduces drive time and increases pull-out resistance. A dacro base coating rated to 1,000 hours of salt spray testing is topped with a charcoal gray powder coat. Sold in a 250-count pack. Installed by roofing and siding contractors in light commercial and residential construction.
These screws are suited for attaching metal panels, flashing, and cladding to wood framing or sheathing. The self-piercing point eliminates the need for a pilot hole in most applications, speeding up installation on metal roofing and wall panel systems. The EPDM washer provides a compressible seal at the fastener head, reducing the risk of water infiltration at each penetration point. The charcoal gray powder coat is applied over the dacro base coating to blend with similarly colored metal roofing and siding panels.
Designed for metal-to-wood fastening in residential and light commercial roofing and siding applications where a self-sealing hex washer head screw is required.
Installed by roofing and siding contractors using a hex-head driver bit matched to the 1/4-inch across-flat head. Confirm panel and substrate material compatibility before specifying fastener length. Follow applicable building codes and panel manufacturer guidelines for fastener spacing and edge distance. Do not overdrive — compressing the EPDM washer beyond the seating point can compromise the seal.
